This is what happens when you marry a Texas boy.  

Killer Wasp Cicada

Turns out (in spite of their name) they are non-aggressive and the males aren't even capable of stinging.  That being said, I could only stand in the middle of the swarm for a couple of quick shots before I high-tailed it out of there to a patch of flowers not covered in bees with 'killer' in their name.

Recently, I kind of went back in time to my childhood and watched Secret Garden.  This little bit at the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens reminds me so much of that movie.

Dog Days of Summer 1

So much for the dog that we had to coax to get into the kiddie pool.  The last couple of days have been so hot that Julie has taken to splashing in the water dish.  They had eaten holes in the plastic kiddie pool so we got a more robust design.
